William Henry Jones, Age 28

Private, 315531, 1/5th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.

William was the son of Mr & Mrs John Jones of 15 Burroughs Bank, Dawley. He had before enlistment worked as a moulder for the Coalbrookdale Company.

William had originally joined the KSLI (Service No. 2638) before being transferred to the Cheshire Regiment, it was whilst serving with the Cheshire’s that he was taken ill in March 1918 and brought back to the UK. He died of his illness whilst in the Bristol Military Hospital on May 8th 1918.

William's body was brought back to Shropshire and not only is he recorded as having a Special Memorial at the Shrewsbury General Cemetery in Plot 10 Grave 301A, but also as have been buried at Dawley Parish Church.

Inscription added to head stone by: Mr. J. Jones, 15 Burroughs Bank, Dawley, Shropshire.
